Jonald Reyes is a Writer, Performer, and Director based in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) with an English degree, concentrating on Cinema Studies. Continuing an interests in the performing arts, he has completed programs at the Second City, iO Theater, the Annoyance, the Neo-Futurists and the Chicago Dramatists Theater.
As a Writer & Performer, Jonald's work has been performed in various festivals including the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, the Detroit Improv Festival, and the Just for Laughs Festival (Chicago). His performance experiences have also brought him to college campuses, including DePaul University, the University of IL (Urbana–Champaign), the University of Chicago and Loyola University.
His recent Directing credits include The Second City’s National Touring Company, Urban Twist's Public Empathy #1 (Second City), The Alchemy of Bliss (Steppenwolf Theatre's LookOut Series), Wake Up Hyde Park! (The Revival), We Are Asian. We Do Comedy. (Steppenwolf Theatre's LookOut Series), Our Perspective: Asian American Play Readings (Victory Gardens & Goodman Theatre), the 30th Anniversary of Splatter Theater (Annoyance), and Ada Cheng's Breaking Rules, Broken Hearts: Loving Across Borders (United Solo Theatre Festival 2018, NYC). Reyes has been honored to be voted as Chicago Reader’s Best of Stage Director (2012, 2013, 2014 & 2016). He is a member of the Directors Lab Lincoln Center Theater 2017 and DirectorsLabChicago 2016. Jonald is also an Associate Member of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society.
Jonald's consistent work and organizational skills have also placed him in production positions. He was Associate Producer for the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival (2013-2017) and Chicago Women’s Funny Festival (2014-2017). He was the Assistant Producer to the Chicago Musical Improv Festival (2015-2016). And Jonald was the Producer for Chicago Improv Festival 2015. He is on the Steering Committee for DirectorsLabChicago and a previous Associate Artistic Director for The Revival. Jonald is a Founding Member of Stepping Stone Theater and Co-Founder of Clash On Clark, Community Space For Artists by Artists.
He has recently been producing more film & video including the feature length horror film, You Are Not Alone (2014) .
Jonald currently teaches improv at The Annoyance Theatre & The Second City Training Center. He is the Creative Lead & Director of The Second City’s Victor Wong Fellowship.
